Klara's story

I am a former professional figure skater and representative of Serbia in figure skating from 2006 to 2010 in the Novice and Junior categories. I've been on ice for 27 years, of which I've trained professionally for 15 years. During my competitive career, I had the opportunity to represent Serbia in numerous international competitions, winning several international and national medals, including 5 Serbian golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze, I was also selected to skate for Serbia at the EYOF (European Youth Olympic Festival) in 2009.

After returning to New York in 2006, I signed with Kappa at the age of 15, but the contract was annulled the following season due to mental health problems and ongoing eating disorders. This financial pressure has led me to coaching to fund my own training, exacerbating my struggles during college admissions and worsening my focus and determination.

In 2011, a month before nationals, I tore my ACL, preventing me from competing and accelerating my decision to retire from the sport - promising myself never to step on the ice again.

However, in 2013, coaching children reignited my love for the ice at Lasker Rink in Central Park and the Figure Skating in Harlem Foundation in New York. Inspired by the enthusiasm of my students, I envisioned creating a healthy skating environment that would foster the virtues of art, meditation and therapy, countering the toxic competitiveness of the sport.

In 2023, I made a step forward to establish a community for ice sports in Serbia, nurturing the true sports spirit and inspiring our youth.

I want this foundation to be a safe space for all to be gorgeously flawed while figuring it out, as we break barriers that continue to hinder our growth, freedom and imagination.
